Crowns & Bridges in Jhadol & Phalasiya

Caps that rebuild a broken tooth, and fixed bridges that fill a gap.

Before and after treatment of broken front teeth at MS Udaipur Dental Clinic

A crown, commonly called a cap, is a cover that fits over a tooth that is too broken or too weak to hold an ordinary filling. A bridge joins two or more crowns together to fill the space left by a missing tooth, using the teeth on either side as support. Both are cemented permanently — nothing is removed at night.

When you need a crown

  • After a root canal on a back tooth, to stop it splitting.
  • A tooth that has broken or cracked and has little healthy structure left.
  • A very large old filling that keeps chipping at the edges.
  • A badly worn or discoloured front tooth that cannot be corrected with a filling.

Crown or bridge for a missing tooth?

A bridge needs the healthy teeth on both sides of the gap to be filed down so they can carry the crowns. That is its real cost: two sound teeth are permanently altered. An implant avoids this by standing on its own. If the neighbouring teeth already need crowns anyway, a bridge makes good sense; if they are untouched and healthy, an implant is usually the better long-term option.

What the appointments involve

  • First visit: the tooth is shaped, an impression or scan is taken, and a temporary cap is fitted.
  • The permanent crown is made to match the shade and shape of your other teeth.
  • Second visit: the fit and bite are checked and the crown is cemented in place.

Making it last

A crown does not decay, but the natural tooth underneath its edge still can, and that is how most crowns are eventually lost. Clean carefully right at the gum line, use floss or an interdental brush under a bridge, and avoid cracking hard shells and bones with a crowned tooth. Call us if a crown feels high when you bite or if the gum around it bleeds.

Questions patients ask about this treatment

How many years does a dental cap last?

With good cleaning, a well-fitted crown commonly lasts 10 to 15 years, and often longer. Crowns are usually lost not because the cap breaks but because the natural tooth under its edge decays, so cleaning right at the gum line is what determines its life.

Which type of cap should I choose?

Metal caps are the strongest and cheapest but show as metal, so they suit hidden back molars. Metal-ceramic caps look like a tooth and are strong enough for most positions. All-ceramic and zirconia caps look the most natural and are the usual choice for front teeth. We will show you the options and explain which suits your tooth, your bite and your budget before you decide.

Do healthy teeth really have to be filed down for a bridge?

Yes. A bridge hangs from crowns on the teeth either side of the gap, and those teeth must be reduced in size to make room for the crowns. This cannot be reversed. It is the main reason we discuss an implant first when the neighbouring teeth are healthy and untouched.
